I believe ideas, communciated effectively, can change the world. It is a powerful idea to believe that the language of geography- communities, neighborhoods, layers of social interactions that can be mapped and analyzed- can alter an individual's and community's health trajectory. It's Tobler's law transformed into action! This presentation will discuss the geospatial foundations in the social determinants of health (the "Socialscape"). Harnessing spatial "big" data, through geospatial modeling and machine learning, we can target preventative methods for communities and individuals leading to better outcomes. Deep down, I love this work because it brings together my love of GEOINT, and all -INTs, with my understanding of analytics, ontologies and data science- all on the path to help others.
